Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Director of Nursing – Surgery to provide strategic, clinical, and operational leadership for surgical services in New Mexico.

This role carries 24-hour accountability for assigned surgical departments and is responsible for ensuring clinical excellence, regulatory compliance, financial performance, and team development. The Director will serve as a key leader within the organization, driving quality outcomes while fostering strong collaboration with physicians and surgical staff.


Ideal Candidate Profile

  • 5+ years of Operating Room (OR) experience
  • Experience leading a robotics surgery program
  • Background in high-volume surgical environments (600+ annual cases)
  • Proven leadership in surgical services management

Key Responsibilities

Clinical & Operational Leadership

  • Provide 24-hour oversight of assigned surgical departments
  • Ensure delivery of safe, high-quality, patient-centered care
  • Maintain compliance with regulatory standards and organizational policies
  • Oversee clinical practice standards within surgical services

Administrative & Financial Oversight

  • Manage departmental budgets and financial performance
  • Oversee staffing models and resource allocation
  • Monitor operational efficiency and case volume performance

Quality & Performance Management

  • Evaluate and improve quality, patient satisfaction, and employee engagement metrics
  • Lead performance improvement initiatives
  • Serve as a change agent to implement strategic initiatives

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Mentor and develop nursing leaders and frontline staff
  • Establish strong collaborative relationships with surgeons and interdisciplinary teams
  • Promote a culture of accountability, engagement, and clinical excellence

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program
    • If not currently BSN-prepared, must be enrolled in an accredited BSN program with a scheduled completion date
  • Current RN license (or license recognized by the State Board of Nursing)
  • BLS certification (required within 14 days of hire and prior to providing direct patient care)
  • Minimum 3 years of clinical nursing experience
  • 2–3 years of nursing leadership/management experience
  • Strong critical thinking and independent decision-making skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in a clinical specialty or nursing administration
  • Experience managing surgical robotics programs
  • Experience in high-acuity, high-volume surgical settings
